How have people in Philadelphia, the Middle East, and North Africa shaped their urban communities over time? 

We explore this question in a two-day Global Summer Institute for social studies, humanities, arts and STEM educators of grades 6-12. Participants receive 14 hours of ACT 48 credits, online and print educational resources, and free breakfast and lunch.

Urban heritages offers educators the opportunity to explore various aspects of urban lives across global regions and cultural perspectives through time. Scholars in the field of World Heritage, Cultural History and Archaeology will share their insights into the ancient cities of Ur and Aleppo, as well as our own city of Philadelphia, allowing deeper inquiry into each urban community.

Teachers will tour the Penn Museum, experience object-based learning with real ancient artifacts, and collaborate with other educators in similar disciplines. By the conclusion of these workshops, participants are invited to submit a lesson plan for curricular implementation for a $100 stipend.
