Khalidi is Professor of Middle East History and Director of the Center for International Studies at the University of Chicago, and is the author of "Palestinian Identity: The Construction of National Consciousness" (Columbia 1997); Zerubavel is the founding Director of of the Bildner Center for the Study of Jewish Life and the Chair of the Department of Jewish Studies at Rutgers University. She is the author of "Recovered Roots: Collective Memory and the Making of Israeli National Tradition (Chicago 1995).
