Sean Yom is Associate Professor of Political Science at Temple University.  His scholarship focuses on regimes and governance in the Middle East, with an emphasis on the Arab monarchies. His past and present research explores issues of authoritarian politics, institutional stability, and economic development, as well as their implications for US foreign policy. 

At Temple, Yom teaches courses on Middle East politics, comparative democratization, and qualitative methods.  His books include From Resilience to Revolution: How Foreign Interventions Destabilize the Middle East (Columbia University Press, 2016), Government and Politics in the Middle East and North Africa (Routledge, 2020), and several other volumes under review and forthcoming.  His journal articles have appeared in European Journal of International Relations, Journal of DemocracyComparative Political Studies, Global Policy Journal, Government and Opposition, PS: Political Science and PoliticsMiddle East Journal, British Journal of Middle Eastern Studies, Studies in Comparative International Development, and Arab Studies Quarterly.

Yom also periodically contributes commentaries and policy essays to online venues, including Foreign Policy, The Washington Post's Monkey Cage, Foreign Affairs, and Responsible Statecraft.  He sits on the steering committee of the Project on Middle East Political Science and the scientific committee of the Hicham Alaoui Foundation.  During 2022-24, he serves as the co-editor of the MENA Politics, the official newsletter of the Middle East and North Africa Politics section of the American Political Science Association.
