Sara Vakili

Adjunct Lecturer in Women's and Gender Studies, West Chester University

Sara Vakili is an adjunct faculty in Women’s and Gender Studies at West Chester University of Pennsylvania. Her research focuses on queer iconography and the intersection of queer, spirituality, and eroticism. She has received her Ph.D. from Tübingen University in Germany and has taught on queer cinema, art, and culture. She was granted DAAD/ Global South Studies scholarship to conduct research in Mexico at la Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México (UNAM) and her work has been published in the book: Cine y Megalópolis.

Currently she is working on her book proposal with the tentative titles “Unruly Desires: From Eastern Mysticism to Western Queerness” which examines saintly desire as a symbol of queer desire through which the body is transformed and becomes a queer body as it embraces and/or embodies the divine.
