Mr. Bindamnan is a Regional Scholar Fellow at the University of Pennsylvania Middle East Center. He was the valedictorian of his high school in the Republic of Yemen in 2014. In 2016, he immigrated to the United States, where he earned a BA in Psychology and Religion from the University of Miami (2016–2020), an MSEd in International Educational Development from the University of Pennsylvania Graduate School of Education (2020–2022), and is currently pursuing a PhD in Comparative and International Development Education at the University of Minnesota College of Education and Human Development (2022–2024). He is also a Scholar Fellow at the Interdisciplinary Center for the Study of Global Change at the University of Minnesota.
His research focuses on the impact of trauma on learning and writing. His dissertation is an autoethnography exploring how the trauma of public speaking led to an interest in writing, which became both a way to process the trauma and a pathway to human development. His geographical focus is Yemen, where he investigates how childhood trauma in Yemen affects adult learners in the United States. While his dissertation is autoethnographic, his upcoming work will take an ethnographic approach in order to document how Yemeni students manage their childhood trauma.
Mr. Bindamnan is a prolific writer with over 100 published articles in scholarly journals, major newspapers, and cultural magazines. He is a contributing author at Psychology Today. His work has appeared in various professional and academic outlets, including New Directions for Teaching and Learning; Material Religion; Journal of the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry; International Journal of Educational Development; International Studies in Sociology of Education; Religion & Liberty Online; Heterodox Academy; Minnesota International NGO Network; Minnesota Reformer; We Linguistically; Star Tribune; MinnPost; Minnesota Daily; Daily Pennsylvanian; American Institute for Yemeni Studies; Philadelphia Inquirer; and Psychology Today.
