The Middle East Center, in collaboration with Al-Bustan Seeds of Culture and Penn Cinema and Media Studies (CIMS), is excited to announce that we are presenting the North American premiere of the film Memory Box directed by Joana Hadjithomas and Khalil Joreige (directors of Lebanese Rocket Society, Je Veux Voir). Nominated for the Golden Bear Prize for best film at Berlinale in March 2021, Memory Box depicts the story of a mother and daughter in Montreal who receive an unexpected delivery: notebooks, tapes, and photos from 1980s Beirut, Lebanon. While the mother refuses to open the box, her daughter dives into the memories of her mother’s adolescence.
The premiere is to be preceded by a short reception in the lobby of Rainey Auditorium of the Penn Museum at 5:15 PM. Guests must enter through the East Entrance.
*Masks and proof of vaccination are required*
