Ryan McAuley

Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine, Hematology/Oncology

Ryan McAuley is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine at the Perelman School Medicine in the Division of Hematology/Oncology. He graduated cum laude from Furman University with a BS in Biology, completed an MPH with a concentration in Humanitarian Assistance at The Johns Hopkins Bloomberg School of Public Health, and earned his MD degree from East Tennessee State University. Ryan completed residency training in Internal Medicine-Pediatrics at UPenn/CHOP in 2013 and returned as an alumni Chief Resident for the 2015-2016 academic year. During his time in residency, he participated in the Global Health Equities Track with longitudinal participation in the Botswana-UPenn Partnership.

 

Ryan's clinical and public health interests focus on global health and vulnerable populations, specifically: refugee and migrant health, disaster response, water and sanitation, and nutrition. Previously, Ryan completed several missions with Medecins Sans Frontiers/Doctors Without Borders in South Sudan and Egypt. In South Sudan, Ryan worked in several project sites focused on provision of emergency healthcare to local populations who are gravely affected by the ongoing civil war and protracted complex humanitarian emergency. In Egypt, Ryan worked in a project that provided emergency healthcare to migrants, asylum-seekers, and victims of torture.

 

At Penn, Ryan works clinically as an oncology hospitalist and is a Fellow in Hospice & Palliative Medicine. Ryan is a Faculty Scholar in the Center for Global Health and has a keen interest in medical education in resource-limited settings. Recently, Ryan was based in Hanoi, Vietnam with the VinGroup-Penn Alliance as Program Director for a new Internal Medicine residency program at VinUniversity. Now back in Philadelphia, Ryan has continued his engagement with this partnership as the Director of Operations for Graduate Medical Education for the VinGroup-Penn Alliance.
