Dr. Ahmad Almallah, Bitter English

Dr. Ahmad Almallah, lecturer of Arabic and Arabic Literature here at the University of Pennsylvania, read and discussed his book Bitter English, an autobiography-in-verse that explores the central role language plays in how we construct our identities and how our cultures construct them for us. Coming to America and trying to navigate the United States with his wife and daughter, while grasping the life he left behind in Palestine, Almallah replicates his own verbal and cultural experience of existing between languages and societies. We appreciated Almallah’s willingness to open up about his experiences. To hear more, check out the article by the Daily Pennsylvanian below!
