Lesson Plans 2000-2002

Arabic is the language of a rich culture and civilization which goes back many centuries. It is the language of over 250  million native speakers from the Arabian Gulf in the east to the Atlantic Ocean in the West. It is also the language of the religion of Islam and is the devotional language of the world’s one billion Muslims.

The course “Marhaba: Welcome to the World of Arabic” will teach the basics of the Arabic spoken language and script. It will also highlight the Arab’s contribution to world culture throughout history, from Islam to Arabic numerals, from astronomy to the introduction of coffee.

The program will be relevant to the teaching of arts, science, history, math and language . Visitors to the program will come from countries such as Egypt, Lebanon, and Iraq as well as Philadelphians of Arab heritage or members of the local Muslim community.

Come join us on our journey to explore the Arabic language and its civilization!

Philadelphia school teachers whose classes are enrolled in “Marhaba” will receive training on the language and culture in monthly sessions in which they will also receive materials for teaching.
